Manchester’s Peoples Voice Media are a not-for-profit with over 15 years of experience working with communities in all parts of the city, and further afield, to empower local communities through the use of digital technology.
Their acclaimed Community Reporter project trains up local people to report on events and activities in their own area. Community Reporters can then upload their content to their own page on the community reporter website and to YouTube and other social networks.
As a partner on the Smart-IP project, Peoples Voice Media will be documenting the city, seeking out stories, and helping to build a community of smart citizens working to improve their own environment.
The Community Reporter site contains a wealth of information about their work – and below are a few recent examples of their work around the Environmental Theme.
Chorlton’s “Big Green Festival” – the south Manchester suburb is popular with families and students, and has a reputation for caring about the environment. Community Reporters went along to experience this year’s festival.
And its not just video – on Wednesday night we joined Peoples Voice Media and others from across Manchester at a planning event for the first City Camp Manchester, a community led initiative that we hope to work with to raise awareness of Manchester’s smart citizens pilot. Read about the event from one of their community reporters here.
