Local partner

In the SMARTiP project, CIE will on behalf of City of Oulu, be contributing to the testing and piloting activities by providing innovative and user oriented testing environments.

Central to this will be the engagement of user-driven open innovation processes and eco-systems, through the work of the three existing Living Labs involved in the project, together with their business partners. They will work with all five city test-beds to provide the bridge that is required between the current development of Internet-based technologies and the future mass take-up of new services based on these. The project will demonstrate how this can be achieved in the three city test-beds which already have Living Labs as an integral part of the local city eco-system (Manchester, Gent and Oulu) and then how that can be extended into two newly involved cities (Cologne and Bologna) as a starting point for much wider networking across Europe.

It is foreseen that Oulu will function as host city for at least one reusable pilot prototype that was implemented in one of the other Smart Cities. The activities include creating the vision for new citizen based user-led Internet-enabled services for Smart Cities, creating a process development plan for reusable pilot services, and setting up a pilot services reusability demonstrator. In this demonstrator, the reusability of the process framework will be shown by deploying one services pilot in another Smart city than the one in which it was initially deployed; by creating user network and build links between users and developer community; by redefining new requirements based on input from users and business community; and by testing and reviewing the pilot process reuse demonstrator performance to ensure user and business needs are met.

City of Oulu: lead on the Communication, Dissemination and Exploitation work package (WP8) and support for IBBT on technical integration (WP6).

Citizens participation? In Demo projects.

All five cities will then establish a „smart citizens group‟ in each city with the aim of getting an average of 500 citizens involved in the project‟s „smart apps‟ programme, i.e. a total of 2,500 users with whom the service will be piloted during the course of the project. The local target number of users will vary depending on the city test bed. Oulu will support work with 50 SMEs and developers across the five partners.
