The Interdisciplinary Institute for Broadband Technology (IBBT) is an independent research institute founded by the Flemish government to stimulate ICT innovation. It offers companies and organizations active support in research and development and brings together companies, authorities, and non-profit organizations to join forces on research projects. Both technical and non-technical issues are addressed within each of these projects. IBBT wants to create and nourish highly competent human capital in different aspects of ICT through multi-disciplinary demand-driven research. This includes all technological, legal and social dimensions of the development and exploitation of broadband services.
IBBT wants to create a lasting and positive impact on society through ICT innovation: demand driven, interdisciplinary research in collaboration with technology suppliers and users excellence in research in domains with a high societal relevance stimulating entrepreneurship a wide (inter)national ecosystem for ICT innovation.
IBBT’s research organization is structured in 5 research departments with a special focus on the most important technological challenges for the upcoming decade.
The main goal of the organization 5 departments obtain more critical mass through focus and efficient leadership in order to have in place the conditions necessary to reach the required level of world-class research in the different domains:
